The building was made of dark grey stones and looked much more like a prison than a school. It was daunting and unwelcoming looking. Perhaps that was because it had once been a mental asylum. But whatever the reason, it didn’t look much like a place you’d want to send your children. At least from the outside. Erin interlaced his fingers with Jester’s before walking through the heavy wooden doors that served as the schools main entrance.

Inside, the atmosphere was much more school-like. There were rows of hooks filled with the jackets of the children who attended the school outside of classroom doors. Many were open, though some where shut and the lights were off. From down the hallway, laughter and rapid footsteps could be heard.
Two children came running around the corner, a boy and a girl. One of them, the girl, ran into Erin. She stepped back and looked up at him.

“I‘m sorry.”

Erin smiled at her.

“That‘s okay.”

The girl looked from Erin to Jester then back again as the boy came up beside her.

“Is he your sweetheart?”

Erin blinked down at her for a moment before smiling.

“Yes. He is.”

The girl smiled. She couldn’t have been more than eight or nine.

“Awww!”

She clasped her hands in front of her and beamed, while the boy just rolled his eyes at her and looked up at Jester.

“Are those scars?”

Jester tensed up for a moment, then smiled.

“Mmmhm.”

His eyes widened.

“H-How‘dya get ‘em?”
A sly smile came over his face.

“While rescuing my sweetheart over there from a terrrr-ifying draaa-gon!”

The boys eyes grew even wider.

“Really?”

That was when Erin cut in.

“Don‘t listen to him. He lies. I saved him.”

The boy looked between them now, unsure which one to believe.

“Ugh. You got me Erin. It‘s true. He saved me.”

The boy laughed.

“Austin? Lucille?”

A voice called from across the hall.

“That‘s our teacher.”

The girl, Lucille said.

Jester knelt down beside her and asked,

“Want to see a magic trick before you go?”

She nodded, blue eyes wide and round.

He put his hand behind his back, and using the abilities he had been trained to use back at Otherworde, created a small white flower. He showed it to her and she gasped, wondering how he had done that.

“A magician never reveals his secrets.”

He said as he tucked the flower behind her ear. She hugged his neck.

“Thank you!”

With that both children ran off towards the doorway of their classroom. As they were running off, Erin gave him a cheeky smile and called after them,

“Austin?”

He boy turned to look at them.

“There were two dragons by the way.”

He beamed at them, waved and ran back into the classroom.

After they disappeared, Erin narrowed his eyes at him.

“You know you shouldn’t do magic in public.”

Jester sighed.

“I know. I know.”

Erin sighed and smiled.

“What am I going to do with you?”

Jester simply shrugged and grabbed his hand again before starting towards the stairs that would lead them to the second floor.

As they reached the top of the grand staircase, their destination: the school’s main office, lay directly ahead of them.
Earlier that afternoon, they had been called down to Blackthorne Woods Elementary School, on account of their daughter Alana being involved in a fight. This wasn’t the first time his had happened and needless to say, Erin was furious. Jester, on the other hand, was merely, disappointed. This was the sixth time in as many weeks they had been called down here.

As they entered the office, the secretary said,

“Blakewoods? Mr. Howell will see you now.”

The lady behind the desk scowled at them as they passed. She didn’t like them at all, for reasons unknown to either man. They nodded and walked through the now open door to the principal’s office.

Inside, a tall dark haired man sat behind a large oak desk, carved with intricate designs and patterns. In front of this desk stood three chairs and in the middlemost one, sat a tiny figure. Dwarfed by the chair, the desk and the man sitting behind it, the small girl almost looked like a doll. All that was visible of her from the doorway, was the top of her head.

They took the chairs on either side of their wayward daughter when Mr. Howell motioned for them to do so.

After a short discussion about what happened, they were told that they could leave and that they were to take their daughter home with them at that she would be allowed to return the next day. However the next time something like this happened, there would be a more severe punishment issued.

Erin waited until they were outside, walking up the long path to their out-of-the-way-home to lecture their daughter. He wasn’t quiet about it either.

“Didn‘t your father and I teach you better than this!? Do you ever think for a single moment how this all looks!? It looks like we never taught you not to do this! Why!? Why do you insist on getting yourself into things like this!? If this is all for attention Alana Blakewood so help me I will-”

“Who won?”

Erin fell silent and both he and Alana looked at him.

“Jester! What are you say-”

“Who won?”

Alana smiled.

“I did. He ran crying to the teacher. It was hilarious!”

“Alana!”

Erin narrowed his eyes and turned to Jester.

“And don‘t you encourage her like that.”

Jester looked at him for a long moment with an unreadable expression, before turning his gaze back to Alana.

“You‘re mother is right you know. You‘re six. You shouldn‘t be getting into fights.”

“AGE IS NOT A FACTOR IN THIS WEREWOLF!”

Erin seethed. Jester knelt down and gently tucked a curl of bright red hair behind her ear.

“But, you did well little soldier.”

“JESTER!”

Erin was absolutely livid by this point. Jester  straightened up again and turned to him.

“Now, Erin,”

“DON‘T YOU NOW ERIN ME!”

He stalked off towards their house leaving Jester and Alana alone.

She looked after her Mother with sorrowful eyes that looked too old for her face. After a moment she turned them up towards Jester. Tears were shining in the corners and dripping down her face. She didn’t cry very often, but when she did, something pretty serious was up.

“What‘s wrong baby girl?”

He hugged him tightly.

“Why does Mommy hate me?”

Jester knelt down to her level again.

“Mommy doesn‘t hate you. Why would you ever think that?”

“He does! He hates me!”

“No. No he doesn‘t. He‘s worried about you. That‘s all.”

“T-then why did he yell at me?”

He gently pulled her over to the grass beside the path. He sat down, put her in his lap and rested his back against a tree.

“He only yelled because he‘s hurt.”

“Hurt? Did mommy get in a fight too?”

He laughed softly.

“No no. Nothing like that. He‘s hurt in here.”

He gently brought her hand to rest over his heart.

“Did I hurt him?”

It hurt to say it.

“Yes baby. I think you did.”

Her eyes widened and she started to cry harder.

“I didn‘t mean to hurt him Daddy.”

He hugged her close.

“I know you didn‘t. He knows it too. But sometimes it‘s hard to see past the hurt.”

He held her close until she had stopped crying entirely.

“Are you okay now?”

She nodded shakily.

“Alright. Are you ready to go apologize to Mommy?”

She nodded.

Jester smiled and scooped her up in his arms. She laughed and he gave her a piggyback ride the rest of the way home.

Once inside, he told her to go up to her room for a little bit. She nodded and hugged him. When she was halfway up the stairs she came back down.

“Did I hurt you too Daddy?”

“Just a little bit.”

She ran up and jumped on him. He caught her and she hugged his neck.

“I‘m sorry.”

“It‘s alright little angel.”

“How can I make it better.”

He gently kissed her cheek.

“You just did.”

She smiled and he let her down. She ran up to her bed room and flopped down on her bed, where she had left several of her favourite picture books that morning before school. She started to read some out loud to her stuffed elephant.

Meanwhile, Jester went to look for Erin. He found him in the kitchen, arms crossed and glaring. Jester sighed and opened his mouth to speak.

“Not one word from you.”

“But Erin.”

“I said not one word.”

Erin crossed the room and stood in front of him. His ears, now free from the hat he usually wore when going out in public to hide them, were pinned to his head, and his tail was out and lashing from side to side.

“What were you thinking?”

He hissed.

“I-”

Erin slapped him hard across the face.

“I said not a word.”

“How could you encourage her like that? You know what fighting could do to her! She could,”

He sighed in anger and frustration.

“She could turn and then they‘d all know. They‘d come after us, and try to kill as all! You know how humans are.”

Tears shone in his eyes. Jester knew he was right. If her emotions got too strong, there was the possibility she would lose control and change in front of everyone, not only alerting them to the existence of creatures like Erin and himself, but also possibly killing someone in the process.

“Erin, I-”

Erin tried to hit him again, but Jester grabbed his arm this time. Stopping the blow.

“I messed up. I know. I‘m sorry.”

“You should be.”

He snarled and wrenched his hand away. He went to storm out of the room, but Jester grabbed him by the waist and pulled him closer.

“Let. Me. Go. Now!”

Erin squirmed.

“I talked to her. Erin, she knows she did a bad thing. I‘ve never seen her cry so hard before. Ever.”

That stopped the squirming.

“S-she cried?”

“Sobbed more like it.”

“Why?”

“Because she hurt you.”

Erin was silent for a while.

“She’s really sorry you know.”

Now it was Jester’s turn to be silent.

“She thinks you hate her.”

“W-what?”

“That‘s what she told me.”
“W-Why?”

“Because you yelled at her.”

Jester said, then called out,

“Alana? Could you come down her for a moment please?”

There was the sound of movement above them, before the thump of tiny feet coming down the stairs, then finally, the freckled face of their ginger haired daughter appeared in the doorway.

“Do you have something you want to say to Mommy?”

She nodded and walked towards Erin, who Jester had now released. She looked up at him for a moment, before she wrapped her arms around Erin’s waist.

“I‘m sorry Mommy. I didn‘t mean to hurt you. I really didn‘t.”

Erin’s expression softened.

“It‘s okay baby.”

“No. It‘s not okay.”

She pulled back and pulled two band-aids from her pocket. Erin and Jester looked at each other, the same confusion mirrored in their expressions. She stood up on tiptoe and reached as far as he could so she could place the band-aids in an X position on his shirt, over his heart. She stepped back and admired her work for a moment, before gently kissing her fingers and pushing them into the center of the X.

“There. Now it‘s okay.”

Erin laughed and scooped her up.

“Thank you my baby.”

She gently kissed Erin’s cheek, which brought on the biggest of smiles. Erin looked like he had the entire world. And maybe he did. He kissed her cheek back.

“I‘m sorry I shouted.”

“It‘s okay Mom.”

“You know I couldn‘t ever hate you right?”
Alana nodded. They snuggled for a moment longer, before Alana yawned. Jester smiled.

“She‘s had a long day, I‘ll go put her to bed.”

Erin nodded and gently handed her over to him.

Alana’s tiny arms wrapped around his neck as they climbed the stairs. He gently tucked her into bed and kissed her forehead.

“You were right Daddy.”

“Oh? About what?”

“Mommy doesn‘t hate me.”

He smiled.

“You’re Mommy could never hate you. Neither could I. You don’t ever have to worry about that okay?”

She nodded and within moments, was fast asleep.

He left as silently as possible and went down to the kitchen again.

“She asleep?”

Erin asked softly.

“Out like light.”

Erin smiled slightly.

“Erin, about everything that happened.”

Erin put a finger to Jester’s lips, silencing him.

“Don‘t. I‘m not mad anymore. I promise.”

He was silent for a moment.

“Well…not as mad as before anyway.”

“How do I make it up to you?”

Erin smiled slightly and kisses him softly. He gently wrapped his arms around Jester’s neck as Jester wrapped his arms around Erin’s waist.

“I think that about makes up for it.”

They both smile and once again, their lips meet.
Ohskhfsu,flsa;

Sorry about this. I don't even know what it is. Erin wasn't supposed to be the villain. I promise.

I don't know I just have this head cannon about Alana being a red head.

What do you think Bekka?
